USAutoMotoImport is a free calculator that works out the full cost of importing a car, a motorcycle or a motorhome bought in the United States and registering it in Europe: customs duty, import VAT, the registration tax of the destination country, shipping and paperwork. We do not sell cars and we do not handle imports: we give you the total before you commit to a purchase.

Who is behind it

Founder of USAutoMotoImport and managing director of NINO, LDA

Born in Ouca (Vagos), in the Aveiro region of Portugal, he has lived in the United States for about 20 years and works in the American car trade, including importing classic cars from the USA to Portugal.

He built the calculator because, in import quotes, the tax — which is the same for everyone — is often mixed in with the service fee and the margin. With the total cost worked out up front, it becomes clear what actually differs from one company to another.

How we calculate

From the official laws and rates in force: for Portugal, the Vehicle Tax Code (ISV, rates set by the 2026 State Budget Law, Lei n.º 73-A/2025), the VAT Code (art. 17) and the Single Circulation Tax Code (IUC); for the other destination countries, their own registration-tax and VAT rules; for customs, the EU Combined Nomenclature and Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 on duties for goods of US origin.
With the same rules for every request: the result does not depend on who may later send you a quote.
Without filling in data at random: if an essential figure is missing, such as the engine size, the calculator warns you instead of showing an incomplete total.
As an estimate: the official amount is set by each country's tax and customs authority at clearance and registration.

What we do and what we do not do

The calculator is free, on the website and in the iPhone and Android apps. There are paid plans for people who run many simulations or need a detailed report: see the pricing.
We do not sell vehicles, we do not handle customs clearance and we are not a customs broker.
If you ask for a quote at the end of a simulation, the request, with the vehicle details, is sent to an import professional. You are free to accept it or not.
